Install GatewayKit, run the 3-step setup wizard, and configure your basic currency and receipt settings in less than five minutes.
System Requirements
Before installing GatewayKit, verify your server meets these lightweight requirements:
| Requirement | Minimum | Recommended | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| WordPress | 6.2 | 7.1+ | Block Editor / Gutenberg fully supported |
| PHP | 7.4 | 8.0 / 8.1 / 8.2 / 8.3 | Platform pinned to 7.4+ |
| Database | MySQL 5.7+ / MariaDB 10.3+ | Latest | Uses WordPress $wpdb tables |
| HTTPS (SSL) | Required | Required | Mandatory for Stripe, PayPal, and modern payment APIs |
| Elementor | Optional | GatewayKit works 100% standalone; Elementor Free/Pro supported if installed | |
No Elementor requirement: GatewayKit does not require Elementor or Elementor Pro. It includes its own visual Form Builder, native Gutenberg block, and universal shortcode. If you already use Elementor, GatewayKit provides seamless integration out of the box.
Installation Guide
Step 1 — Install GatewayKit (Free)
Option A — From WordPress.org (recommended)
- Go to WordPress Admin → Plugins → Add New.
- Search for “GatewayKit”.
- Click Install Now, then Activate.
Option B — Manual upload
- Download the GatewayKit ZIP from WordPress.org or GitHub.
- Go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin.
- Choose the ZIP file, click Install Now, then Activate.
Step 2 — 3-Step Setup Wizard
Upon first activation, GatewayKit launches an intuitive 3-Step Setup Wizard (accessible anytime from the admin):
- Currency Setup: Choose your primary transaction currency (e.g. USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD, INR).
- Gateway Activation: Select which payment processors you want to activate (Stripe, PayPal, Mollie, Crypto, etc.) and paste your API keys.
- Starter Forms: Automatically generate ready-to-use sample forms (Donation
Form, Simple Checkout) and an automatic Payment Receipt page (
/payment-receipt/).
Step 3 — Install GatewayKit Pro (Optional Add-on)
- Purchase GatewayKit Pro and download the
gatewaykit-pro.zippackage from your Freemius receipt. - Go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin and upload the ZIP.
- Click Activate.
- Enter your license key on the GatewayKit Pro account screen to unlock premium features.
The order matters: GatewayKit core must be activated first. If you activate Pro
while GatewayKit is absent, Pro displays a friendly notice: “GatewayKit Pro requires GatewayKit to be
installed and activated.” Both plugins install into separate folders (gatewaykit/ and
gatewaykit-pro/).
Activation Behavior
On activation, GatewayKit:
- Creates its database tables (transactions, logs, discounts, discount usage) with the complete final schema in one step.
- Records the current database version so no migration prompt appears on fresh installs.
- Schedules a daily cleanup of old payment logs (30-day retention by default).
- Sets sensible default options without tracking or phone-home telemetry.
First-Time Setup
Fine-tune your global payment configuration in the WordPress Admin under GatewayKit → Settings:
- Store Currency: Choose your default store currency. Only currencies supported by your active gateway(s) are shown to prevent checkout errors.
- Receipt Email: Set the From name, From email, and subject for receipts emailed automatically to customers after payment.
- Log Level: Select
Error(recommended for production) orDebug(useful when troubleshooting webhooks). - Print Mode: Choose whether printing a receipt outputs only the receipt card or the full page.
- Rate Limiting: Configure per-endpoint submission limits to protect against automated card testing and bot attacks.
